Research Interest

GERIATRIC NEPHROLOGY: As director of hemodialysis unit and head of Geriatric Nephrology section, improving the longevity as well as the quality of life in elderly patient on hemodialysis has been my major concern. Over the past 2 years, I published 11 manuscripts, 2 book chapters as well as being a contributor in preparing the first curriculum on Geriatric Nephrology that is published on the American Society of Nephrology website. Trying to understand, better diagnose and manage such problems as depression, falls, and frailty that are common in elderly population on dialysis has been the focus of my research. AKI: As director of the newly formed Therapeutic extracorporeal care Unit (TECU), improving and predicting the outcome of dialysis-dependent hemodialysis (D-AKI) patients has been crucial. Two studies were launched, one trying to evaluate clinical predictors of outcome of D-AKI and the other evaluating biomarkers as predictors of outcome in D-AKI patients.
